What is the model number of your Sony TV? Can you post pictures to show us what you mean? Does the TV stay on for a while or does it turn off after a few minutes of not having half the picture?
Anything happen before 1/2 the picture was cut off?
Let us know. I'm here to help.

You can take off the back cover of the TV and keep the blue switch (lamp door sensor) pushed in with some tape in order to trick the TV into thinking that the cover is on. Then power on the set. Check to see where the noise is coming from.

HarryC,
Check the fans, make sure the disassembly / reassembly didn't put any wires too close to the fans. Then I recommend re-checking the color wheel to make sure it's seated properly. It should not be noisy if you just replaced it. I would look into it.

The voltage being sent from your power supply to your ballast must be around 350V-380V on the mitsubishi. Yes, if the color wheel is not spinning at the proper speed (there is a sensor on the color wheel housing, and a timing mark on the wheel itself) then the ON signal will not be sent to the DMD board from the color wheel. This means the TV will not turn on.
