For the fans, make sure that all of them are working (spinning) and if one is stalling or showing any kind of abnormality you’ll have to replace it.

To be honest, it’s very difficult to say without actually being there to look at the TV. The only advice I can come up is that you find yourself a honest and down to earth tech that can help you diagnose the problem.

To be honest there is no way to determine is a ballast or color wheel is going out soon.
The only way to prolong its life is by cleaning the inside of the TV every 5 or 6 months.

The lamp may still be “Usable” and might still work, how ever if you try to push it to its limit it will implode, and there is a small probability it will take out the ballast as well.
So I wouldn’t recommend it. How ever it up to you to decide.
