2nd lamp went out a month later

Post by coconini2 » Sun Jul 05, 2009 7:54 pm

Hi, our Samsung DLP is approx 1 yr old. Our original lamp went out and we replaced w/ new Philips 132W on 5/28/09. This morning, it went out again (one month later). I called the company we ordered from (online) Discountmerchant.com and the rep is telling me there are known issues w/ the ballast and that I should replace it.

Should I order/repl the ballast and purchase a new lamp?

Thank you!

Yes, most probably the reason for which your lamp is going out is your ballast.

Since you are no doubt anxious to get your set fixed, order both the ballast and lamp. BUT, install the new ballast first. If it fires back up, you can return the bulb (even though there is a 20% restock charge) or keep for the future. I just yesterday installed a new ballast after having replaced the bulb. For fun, I put the old bulb back in and it was fine.

Hey, did you set the lamp timer? that may have something to do with the new lamp not working properly, also try the old lamp. If the old lamp still lights up ballast is good. But more than likely you have a ballast issue.
Specially if you hear frequent clicking noises or buzzing. Common indicators of ballast not working properly.
