well it still sounds like the Ballast is arching and does not ignite the lamp...

If this seems to be happening on all inputs, I am leaning more towards this being an issue with your DMD board. Yet if those green blotches are gone, this can simply be an issue with your Digital video board..

Hello, It sounds like this is a textbook ballast issue, I am sure you can replace it yourself. How long have you had this RPTV? If there was never any discoloration or distortion on your screen then I would suggest you try a new ballast!

I would try another ballast just to be sure, did you replace the new one yourself? if so double check the connections, it could be arching somewhere else, DM has ballasts really cheap...

Hello, Theres really no way to test the part I think is malfunctioning (ballast) since it puts out 15kV it can damage your multimeter.. This is almost always an issue with the lamps ballast, do not get frustrated, if you read many posts you will find it needs to be replaced at least one during the TVs life time. How long has it been since you changed the lamp?

I would opt for the most inexpensive way, which is to order and replace with a new colorwheel, since it should not be making a "rubbing sound" if this fails then at least your not out hundreds, this site has them www.discount-merchant.com

looks like you got the double trouble! most of these Samsung TVs need the replacement of the colorwheel and ballast at some point during their life time, this to me (the clicking) sounds like a ballast issue...

It is rare but not unheard of , that both parts short out at the same time!

yes NEVER go for plasma, but as far as Samsung DLP or any projection technology goes, they all have their flaws, some work for 8 yrs without as much as a lamp change, some need a lamp at the first year...

No, if the lamp is out your TV would not come on.

Colorwheels usually run about 100$ and are easy to install it just looks ovewhelming

that clicking sound is most likely the ballast trying to ignite a lamp!
So either you have an old lamp or a defective ballast.
