I suppose I can live with the problem until DMD board prices go down.

It's possible that the TV is detecting that you have the "wrong" kind of lamp. Go to the service menu and see if the lamp manufacturer and wattage are right, if you can.

The menu's don't show up before the images appear on the screen. I was afraid it could be the DMD board, just seems like an extremely weird problem.
