Re: HLN617 No Picture Yet Bulb is On
Here it is almost the end of 2017 and I still have this 2003 TV. Recently had to replace the color wheel and lamp again, powered it up and the colors were missing off. Turned out the light tube had collapsed apart. Luckily Samsung still had those in stock. Put it all back together and it worked grea...

Now the TV is working fine again. But seems to have the issue if not turned on for a few days. I would love to replace the DMD board but can't find one anywhere. It really would be a shame to trash this TV, as the picture quality is still great. Any suggestions of where I can find the correct DMD bo...

After several years, this issue has started again. Only this time I can't even get a picture. There is sound but the screen is blank, yet the bulb works. Sometimes after a few minutes the TV shuts itself off and all the lights in the front flash. I then have to unplug the TV and plug it back in to m...

The jumper thing is only if you replace it with a non OEM color wheel, not an OEM color wheel. I've replaced the color wheel on my HLN617 and never did anything to the jumper.

Re: Dark Screen Shadow Spots
Would a symptom of a failing bulb show up as not being able to correctly produce very high contrast test patterns? It is my understanding the curve for the lamp drops off sharply at the end of their life. This means they pretty much retain their brightness throughout their entire life until right n...

A few nights ago I turned on my TV and the picture scrambled and then went dark. The bulb was still working and there was audio. Re: BIZARRE - lamp on, but screen blacks out.
I am having a similar problem with an older HLN617 DLP TV. The lamp and audio work fine, yet the screen is dark. I have no lights on the front indicator panel, which means there is a problem because one light should be on. Every so often the picture scrambles, then goes blank again.

Our almost 8 year old Samsung HLN617 started having a problem recently after turning it on, the picture goes dark yet the lamp is working. I am very glad I started this thread and find out I was not alone in having the same issue. I just hope there are enough of these TV's out there still working, so we can get to the bottom of this. Talos04, I don't think we have the same issue. I have shadow spots, not rings or red pixels. I think my issue is dust on a lens or the DMD mirrors, that is reflecting shadows to the screen. But as I had stated, you can only see them when the screen goes dark. I will try to post a picture of them.

Re: HLN617WX/XXA Picture Scrambled
Well I ended up unplugging the TV and turned it back on after about 30 minutes, now the picture is back!
The only issue I am now having is that when the screen goes black there are lighter spots, like small balls showing up on the screen. They are more concentrated in the center of the screen.

Re: Should Color Wheel Spin Freely?
I would think it should spin freely, if it is stiff then the bearings may be bad. But usually you get bearing noise when this happens. From what I have read here, a faulty color wheel can prevent an electrical signal that allows the lamp to light.
