Perhaps the high temp limit switch is being tripped by an overheating condition. Have you checked that all your fans are operating and the intakes/ exhaust ports are not obstructed? You could connect a continuity tester to the switch and watch for a break in continuity when the TV switches off. If t...

Pepe, thanks for the URL explaining the anatomy of a Mercury Vapor lamp. I had a close look at the ignition chamber on my bulb and noticed it had a small crack and the interior was a bit black.
