When Replacing Expensive Parts Don't Fix Dead Set

If you've experienced the frustration of replacing expensive TV parts such as a DLP Lamp, ballast, power assembly board and verified that the color wheel is spinning freely with no apparent bearing noise, i.e. "screaming like a banshee" as one poster described, continue reading. I did all of the abo...

Re: HLR4266WX/XAA color wheel replaced, no picture

Hi Windstar, Sympathize with your situation. Made a lot of unneeded parts replaced before I found the ultimate cause--color wheel. A group grope is not the way to go. Even though my color wheel was intact and spinning freely it was the culprit. I recommend that you go to www.samsungparts.com an orde...

Re: Ballast or Lamp or Something Worse?

Well, it's looking like something worse. New Lamp, Ballast, and Power Supply hasn't fixed the problem. Zero'd in on the power supply when the supply voltage to the ballast dropped to zero while trying to ignite the Lamp. What is consistent with this set is a "purring" noise which cycles about every ...

Samsung HL-R4677W INLAY-TERMINAL?

What's the function of the "Inlay-Terminal" [BP64-00529A] and could it play a role in the set's inability to light the DLP lamp creating a no picture no sound trouble symptom?

Thanks in advance anyone.

How to Test the DMD Board and/or Power Supply?

My HL-R4677W has not responded to transplant/treatment [replaced lamp and ballast] from Samsung's authorized parts seller]. Set still cycles as before with no picture or sound and the fans and color wheel spin when set is powered up. Also, the whistling noise still cycles from the center of the set....

Re: Ballast or Lamp or Something Worse?

Thanks Jake. Nothing like a good picture(s). Every illustration on lamp replacement I've seen in my manual, as well as literature received with the new lamp, was for some set other than mine. Go figure! Checking the ballast under op conditions sounds like a job for a "dead-man's stick," a device we ...

Ballast or Lamp or Something Worse?

I was viewing a program on my HL-R4667W when the screen went black, came back on momentarily a couple of times and went black for good. The three blinking indicator LEDs "suggested" that the lamp needed replacement. I tested the lamp with a VOM minus the then knowledge that it was a mercury vapor ty...

Re: New to the forum? Introduce yourself!

Hello All, As my ID implies, I'm an old techy type who worked on TV and sound equipment back in the 1950's, however, my career took a different path. I still dabble in repairing my own equipment when it's within my reach. I subscribe to the belief that a little knowledge can be dangerous. And I don'...
