KDF-70XBR950 Picture Problem
Hello!
My 6 Year old 70 inch is failing on me! The LCD is lit when I turn on the power, but it does not show a picture. All I have on the screen is 2 vertical fat white strips. I have sound, and I can change the channel but the only thing that shows are the 2 lines on a blackground. The lines are still bright, so I have not tried to replace the lamp yet.
Anyone have any ideas?

Press the Pause button, hehehehe... just kidding.
ammm...that's a problem with the light engine system.
To be honest i think you have to replace the full assembly ._.
that's my recommendation. Lets see if more people can comment.

I hope your not talking about the optical unit block assembly. I checked the price from sony, and it was about $1500!

Re: KDF-70XBR950 Picture Problem
I found the sony surplus store, and they are changing way less ~$580 (including tax and shipping). They warranty the unit for 1 year. Hopefully this unit will last me another 6 years, when I decide to buy a new TV. I'll keep you guys posted of the results after I install it.
If anyone is interested the Sony surplus store is:

The optical unit block assembly aka light engine part number for the KDF-70XBR950 is A1606039A.

Ok so I replaced the light engine assembly, which i spent about 2 hours on. I still have the same problem, although the color is more vivid. Sigh... anyone else have any ideas?

Hi melonberry.
It seems like if you have something obstructing the red light... Are you sure you replaced the complete light engine? cause if you did it then this problem should be fixed with that replacement.

I agree with NEhelp....
I had the same question, if you replace the LCD optical block.
The reason is that when you buy the full light engine is basically the video board, the LCD optical block and light tunnel.
If you bought the assembly without the optical block basically is going to be the same thing; is like having a flat tire and you change just the rim, using the same tire.
For what i can tell...if you are using the same optical block.
Blue lines or blob is a problem with the RED mirror.
Purple lines or blob is with green.
Yellow is problem with the blue one.
With the lines that you have ammm...i can say that maybe there's some cracks or some dirt on the RED lens.
Open up the light engine and check the optical block.

Re: KDF-70XBR950 Picture Problem
I'm pretty sure I changed out the entire assembly. There is only one part number for the light assembly. I could be wrong though. The package I received came in two pieces. I've installed both.
Lets assume there is a problem with the red mirror. Where would the red mirror be located?
Attached are some images I pulled from the service manual.
I don't know if I can post it, but I will anyways in hope to inspire help!

Re: KDF-70XBR950 Picture Problem
Ok so a miracle happened this weekend. My TV started working again on its own!!
I took out the new replacement optical block, and the C2 block and I returned it. I put back in the old ones, and fiddled with the lamp a bit before I put it in as well. I've had luck in the past that when I put stuff back together it just magically starts working again. Turning back on the TV, the lines where still there. Then I went to the back of the TV to hook up the dvd player, when I went back to the front the lines were gone!
I'm not sure what happened, its probably intermittent problem, but I hope that was the only time it happens!
Below are some photo's I took of the service menu after I turned it back on. If anyone ever wants to shed some light on this, please do.
