Problem powering up Panasonic DLP - ballast?
I replaced the lamp of my Panasonic PT52LCX66 a few months ago, but recently have had problems getting it to power up, which I believe are not related to the lamp.
After pressing the power button, the fan activates, and three repetitions of electrical buzzing from near the lamp repeat (each lasting 5 seconds or so, separated by some 30 seconds) before the system shuts down and the red light flashes only once (not three times). After repeated attempts, the TV does eventually power up, but it is almost never without several cycles.
My replacement lamp provider believed my problem to be one with the ballast board, but I would like to know from you experts if (1) this does indeed sound like such a problem, and (2) how I might obtain said replacement.
Any feedback would be dearly appreciated!

Hi deralbert,
Yes it sounds like a ballast issue..... but you can try resetting the lamp hour meter first. Since this one tells the ballast how old is the lamp and ballast adjust voltage because of lamp consumption. If we don't reset the timer ballast might still send voltage for an old lamp instead of a new one.
Follow This instructions:

If situation persists, change the ballast, since it shouldn't be doing that noise.
Ballast will look something like this:

Sometimes it could be really complicated to get a Panasonic ballast, but this is a very common issue that there are some people selling repair kits:

Hope this works 4 u....

Hello!
I also think as BYO says above that this is more probably a Ballast issue. Given the buzzing sound and the clicking sounds, I have to conclude that the ballast is weak and those symptoms are created when it cannot arc the 15kV needed to ignite the lamp and clicks to a stop...

Thanks for sharing your feedback!
I've had luck of late getting the TV to come on without multiple attempts, but it's very comforting to know that my issue is almost certainly the ballast should I find in the future that replacing it is necessary.
Gratefully yours,
-Albert

Do not worry all DLPs need a ballast replacement at least once during their lifetime.
