My HLN507WX quit yesterday while my daughter was watching it. She says it made a loud high pitched sound, followed by a mechanical "gurgaling" then the colors went crazy with blues and purples (picture not jumbled). Then the screen went dark followed by the three flashing lights of death on the front of the set.
I have taken the lamp out and it doesn't look burnt out. From what I can see of the color wheel with the lamp housing out, it also looks intact. However, when i put everything back together and try to start the set, I get the normal start-up chimes, a click, and a high pitch whirling then it stops trying. This cycle repeats. Afterward, I take the lamp housing back out and I can see the color wheel seems to be in the exact same position as before. Does it "park" when it stops? Maybe it is not spinning?
How do I tell if I need a lamp or color wheel? The set is nearing 6 years old.
Thanks!

Re: Lamp or Color Wheel for my HLN507WX?
Hi Joker (nice nickname)
The noise you described is usually produced by the color wheel, and for the symptoms your daughter experimented I think that's the problem. However there is a possibility you need both the color wheel and the lamp, since the lamp has a life span and your tv is 6 years old.
Hope this helps.
