Alright Eddie, I have a good one for ya. If you replace the lamp does it affect it's durability if you don't set the lamp timer?
ALSO: if you have factory Osram, lamp and you go for a Philips to replace lamp. does that affect the ballast performance in the long run? Me and a couple friends here have some wagers.

Hello darkart77.
The lamp timer dose not affect the durability of the lamp or tv, however the main problem that you might face is that after a short while the tv will either tell you that you need a new lamp (it will just be annoying) of give symptom that normally indicate that a new lamp is needed (like when the tv turns off after a shot while).
As for the Philips – OSRAM question. The ballast is not affected in any way, since OSRAM bought the rights to virtually duplicate the UHP lamp that Philips created. So the are almost the same (the most obvious differences are the price and quality).

A thread with various pictures of problems, and their fixes, this would have to be done for each manufacturers topics section. These threads would have to be edited by the mods to avoid clutter and to keep the problems and solutions fairly organized.

I am starting to hear a buzzing sound on my 6 year old samsung HL-4663w DLP tv. It seems to be coming from the back panel where the lamp is. I have not had to replaced the lamp yet. The buzzing sound is getting louder. Could this be the beginning of the end for the lamp? The picture is fine.Eddie wrote:This forum is meant to evolve.
