Service mode?
SO its (mute 1 8 2 power) all at the same time? or right after one another? Cant seem to get this mode on either of my 2 DLPs that are broke. 1 has a lamp thats on 1 that never gets a lamp on. will the display pop up without a working lamp in the tv?

This only works with samsung. it may work with some akai tv's. the power has to be turned off. make sure the dlp tv has time for it to turn it'self fully off. the fans stay on for some time to make sure everything cools down. after it's fully off. press in order, mute then press 1, then press 8 and next 2 then hit power.
