Akai DLP 46DL10

Post by caddyshack9 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 4:01 pm

Have had this TV for about 4 years. TV started coming on with sound then no picture. Turn on and off a couple times then it would work. Finally it will come on for about 20 seconds with picture that looks like an old photo negative then go black. The color has gone off and on for over a year. Put in new lamp and same problem. Does this indicate color wheel and can it be fixed? Thanks for help. Already bought new tv but would like to fix if it is feesible.

I am guessing it's the color wheel. Akai dlp tv's are made by samsung. Once the tv is opened and you have the color wheel removed look at the sticker and do a http://www.samsungparts.com look up on the part. also check http://www.direct-merchant.com

I am not finding the color wheel by itself. but i did find the light engine that has the color wheel. It's cheaper then buying a color wheel. get it.

It also comes with other parts that can make this issue happen. It should fix your issue.

most akai dlp tv's are made by samsung. I have two samsung dlp tv's. I had 3 but sold the one. I got them all as broken sets, and repaired them.

Hopefully the light engine will fix it. If so you sure saved me some money. The individual parts in that unit are expensive when purchased seperately!

I am guessing it's most likely the color wheel and the light engine has the color wheel. You maybe able to sell off the parts you don't need. from your old light engine. Like the dmd chip and the dmd board. and make your money back. I wonder why the seller on ebay didn't nock these new light engines into the bare parts and sell them to make more money. Thats one thing I learned about these tv's you may need just the one part but sometimes you can buy the light engine for less. To buy a color wheel would cost about what you paid for the full light engine. normaly dmd boards go for over 200 dollars and the dmd chips go for like 200 dollars so you got a great deal at 99 dollars forthe light engine. I am guessing thesea re new old stock. That these light engines have been sitting around for a long time and this guy is trying to unload them.

:-)good one. The color wheel goes bad from spinning It's one of the only moving parts. it just wears out. The other parts go bad from heat. Now it may have a shelf life if it was like 30 or 40 years old, but the parts are not that old.

Got the engine today. EXACT replacement. Had to go to a funeral so I didn't get it in but that's on the top of my list for tomorrow. Will let you know the results.

glad it's fixed. that was a lot less then paying a repair man to come out. that was a great price on a light engine. normaly they are like 950 dollars. but I dont think its a high demand part so they are just trying to unload them.

Without warning or symptoms my television won't turn on. There are no lights, power, noise or anything to indicate failure. prior to this, all was good. Yesterday I even unplugeed it all day in efforts to reset itself or come on by some miracle. Can u help me? I was think the power source board was faulty...?

Mine did that about a year ago and I took it to a repair shop. It cost about $150 to get it fixed. The repairman said a circuit board was bad. Maybe the power supply?? I don't know much about them but I'm sure you can find help here. Good luck.
