This is a post about a consumer who contacted me through the board. They had purchased a new color wheel and was still having color issues. I had told him to check a number of things, but I had forgotten one important thing: CN810.
------Yaya0525------
Ok Eddie, I just replaced the color wheel and now the picture is all wrong. ....too much red and too much blue but when I try to adjust the colors nothing happens.
Got any suggestions?
------Eddie------
If you have too much red and too much blue you've got a few troubleshooting options:
1. Your component cables are mixed up. Check the cables first.
2. You bought the wrong color wheel, or an incompatible wheel. Call the guys you bought it from and double check to make sure that's the right unit for your tele.
Good Luck!

Verified part# to be correct, checked component cables all seemed fine, reversed them and picture colors improved but still has a 'negative' effect.
------Eddie------
Strange. Can you take a photo of it? The really really bad thing that it could be would be the light engine, but that's not likely. Could also be the video board that takes those inputs.
The cables are still my first instinct. Can you swap a different component cable in the back? Or try composite or HDMI instead?
------Yaya0525------
Already swapped the component cables in back...made colors better but still had the 'negative' effect. I think I may have gotten a bad color wheel as after only 5 minutes of running it started humming like the last one. I called the co. I ordered it from & they are sending me a new one. I hope that's is all it is...just a bad part. I'll try the new one when it gets here and let ya know. Thanks loads for your help. Electronics aren't my stong suit so it's nice to have you to turn to.
------Eddie------
Hehe, no problem. Which company did you order the replacement from?
------Yaya0525------
Sears Parts Direct
What I don't get is why would I have to change the componet cables? If they were set fine and the color wheel goes bad then I put a new color wheel in shouldn't the component cables remain the same?
------Eddie------
Well, component cables can go bad too.. component cables are those red, green, blue (video RGB), red and white (audio) cables.
If you just swap them with another set, that will eliminate that as a problem. I'm just saying that because my fiance's grandmother had an issue with her LCD TV. They thought it was the board inside, but I swapped it out with a new set I got with a DVD player. Problem solved.
The color wheel issue though... those things do seem to have a high defect rate from what I've seen. I'd test everything out before having to spend more money though!
------Yaya0525------
DOH! Now I really feel like an idiot....I thought by 'swap' you meant to put the red in the green and vice versa....lol...now I realize you meant to swap the exixting set with a new set...that makes sense....as I said, electronics, not my stong suit! I get it now...let me try that.
Hey Eddie, I rec'd the replacement color wheel and it didn't work either....had to take sensor out of the 1st replacement wheel and combine with parts from the 2nd color wheel to make one that works. I still have the color problems, however. I replaced the component cables so I know they are good. It is definately something with the TV and not one of the other components or cables. I put a cd in and the color is even wrong on the cd. Just can't seem to get the colors adjusted correctly. Is there some sort of reset one can perform on the TV?
------Eddie------
Wait, what kind of color wheels did you replace it with. There are 2 kinds of color wheels and if you don't pull the jump off when switching them out, the wheel spins at the wrong speed!
Any pictures?
------Yaya0525------
What jump?
------Eddie------
There's an article on the FixYourDLP.com website and Discount-Merchant.com

Basically, if you have an old BALL BARRING color wheel, and replace it with the newer AIR BARRING color wheel, you have to pull a JUMPER off the DMD board to let the TV know you've installed a newer wheel running at a different speed... or vice-versa put the JUMPER ON if you went from an AIR BARRING to a BALL BARRING.
Just trying to emphasis the different parts. Hope that helps!
I might even have a picture for you if we have one of those machines in stock.
------Yaya0525------
That did it! Thanks loads. I couldn't have done without you. Do you know how many times I've TV apart??? Whew! What a learning experience this has been.
------Eddie------
I'm sorry I didn't think about that sooner. When you said you got the same exact color wheel part I thought you replaced with the same exact part type as well.
Congrats!

Clarification from Yaya0525:
Glad to be able to share the experience and possibly help anyone who might just be as 'challenged' as I. Thanks again!
For the record, the 1st replacement wheel had a bad wheel, it wobbled and screeched terribly when running and the 2nd replacement ran smoothly and fine but wouldn't turn the light on so I deduced that for that one it was the sensor. Figuring I had two bad parts, each with something different wrong I would try to combine the two and attempt to 'make' one workable part. At that point I really didn't have anything to loose. Surprisingly, it worked. The only thing left was the jumper. I would think that since the ball bearing model of the color wheel is no longer available this jumper information would be included in the air bearing model, but I s'pose that would be too easy....
