Hl-s5087w issues

Alright well I bought this tv back in 2007 and it has operated decently since then even though the color wheel has always been a bit noisy when turning off/on and it needs to have its lamp door switch permanently taped down or else it turns off constantly. The lamp life is over 14k hours and it still seems to work fine. The main issue started a year ago. A dark purplish shadowing appeared on the left side of the screen. It was almost unnoticeable but it grew larger to about a inch wide. So about a week ago I decided to check out the lamp because I swore something was in front of it blocking the light. I removed the lamp and everything seemed fine. I put it back and turned the tv on. The shadow has now consumed almost the entire screen. Also for some reason a sliver or normal light is now on the left side.

I'm thinking in all the moving it took to be able to turn the tv around the vibrations finally did in whatever was failing.... That's my theory at least.
Despite the age of the lamp I don't think that's the issue either since I don't know how it would throw off uneven amounts of light like that.
I've read it could be a light tunnel issue. I'm leaning towards that at this point... Any idea's?

Hello knifesideleft.
From the pictures you provided I can say that the problem is NOT related with the lamp, ballast or color wheel. What is in question is the DMD board, digital or analog board. To determine which one you’ll need special equipment, like an oscilloscope to trace a signal output. However, you can run a couple of test to narrow down you problem. First, try to bring up the TV menu, is it over the purple shadow, or is it not visible? If it shows up then the DMD is probably fine, how ever if not then there might be something wrong with it.
Second, try to hook up a external component like a DVD, gaming console or computer to the tv, se if there are any changes. If the picture is fine then the video boards are fine if not then of the two the digital is more probable to have to do with the purple shadow.
Keep me posted on you findings.
Good luck.
