Samsung Powers on No Picture or Trouble Lights

Hi folks. Ive read a few different post on other sites where my similar problem is being mentioned but with my luck it appears to be the only one never really having been answered so i thought id give it ago myself here 
I have a Samsung HL-S5087W and am having some problems with it. For the past few months the tv when powered on would flash the lamp light for a minute or two then go to a black screen even though the lamp was on. After unplugging it though and tapping the top left hand corner of the tv a few times it would kick on after unplugging and resetting. Today however a similar problem is happening 3 out of 4 times i attempt to turn on the tv (if left unplugged for a day or two it will turn on often). When i power it on the green light flashes a few times and it audibly chimes on as it should to start but once the lamp is lit and the lights are all done flashing, the tv is on (lamp is lit) just with no picture. Its almost like a very dark greyish black screen. I replaced the lamp to no avail. There are no whining or grinding sounds whatsoever nor are there any flashing lights on the display. It does not power itself off either and both fans appear to be working correctly. It looks like it functions exactly as it should minus the picture. Ive read that ballast can be a possible issue but woudlt the tv power off or not turn on at all if this were the case? Thanks so much for any help!!
