DLP question

I have an AKAI DLP model PT50dl24 that is about 3 years old. Recently after being on for several hours it will shut off and the lamp and standby lights flash for about 1-2 minutes, I can start the TV again and it will work for several more hours and do the same thing.
The flashing lights indicate (according to the manual) the lamp door is open but no one has ever worked on the TV and the back is still factory sealed. Any idea what is going on? Thanks

have you ever clean your tv?
The best way (in my own experience) is to have the following tools.
1.- a can of compressed air.
2.- a small vacuum cleaner (preferably a hand held).
3.- a mouth cover.
4.- a pair of latex gloves.
5.- a Philips (cross tip) screw driver.
Instructions.
-Put mouth cover and gloves on.
- remove the entire back of the TV.
- on one hand have the compressed air can and in the other the vacuum.
-start spraying the compressed air from a 6 inch distance and at the same time vacuum al the dust that starts flying around from the same distance.
Hope this helps and if it doesn't then we need to change your TV lamp.
have you ever changed your lamp?
let me know!

AkaiDLP,
I suggest buying a new lamp for your TV set to start off the diagnosis. After 3 Years, the lamp is due for replacement anyway. You will not be able to diagnose properly with a 3-year-old lamp!
Your replacement lamp can be found here:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/p-95-s ... ement.aspx
If you experience the same problems after purchasing a new lamp, post here and we will help.
Good Luck!

I would say its the dmd board. I can't find the board by itself but i did fund the light engine on ebay for 99 dollars and it has the dmd board.

also most akai dlp tv's are made by samsung. enter your model number on
www.samsungparts.com and see what parts are listed for your tv.

I was looking and it doesn't look like these have the ballast. you may want to check to make sure your lamp is still on from the back of the tv. if it's off then it could be the color wheel or the ballast. this part comes with the color wheel but not the ballast.

Hello taker, can you describe the sound? is it like a buzzing sound? if so you might have a ballast issue...
Hello AYDENGURL, I find most parts of that nature at
www.discount-merchant.com just make sure you take the part out and order with the part number not just your TV model since parts like that may vary...!
hope this helps!
