Samsung HLR5067W Picture Freezing

Post by AnnyongBluth » Thu Apr 16, 2009 5:19 am

I have a Samsung HLR5067W and the picture keeps freezing on me. Sometimes I am able to watch the television for a couple hours with no problems. Other times I can't get it to run 5 minutes without freezing. The picture will freeze but audio will continue for about ten seconds, but then the audio cuts out too and the television seems to reset itself. Then it will work again for awhile, who knows how long. It does this on all inputs. The remote control will not work when the picture is frozen, but will work again after the reset.

From what I have read so far, it could be the DMD board? I did the Mute 1,8,2 thing and ran some tests, everything worked fine. But I never have problems with the picture as long as it isn't frozen. I don't have any source run to the coaxial input, but I noticed when I flipped through inputs that it displays a green picture on that input. I don't know if that means anything. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to know what components to replace. Thanks

AnnyongBluth,
The freezing is normally caused by a defective DMD board... The Digital Board is also a possibility, however, in the scenario that you are describing... the DMD board is most likely the issue.

When a DMD is failing you will get the following:

Freezing of picture
Distortion of picture / pixelation - including on the menu screen
Black Out - Lamp is on, but the picture is black

I would look on Discount-MErchant.com to see if they have any DMD's or even complete Light Engines in stock. A complete light engine from them costs less than a DMD board from samsung themselves.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for your quick response ovadoggvo. Discount-merchant has a complete light engine in stock. I ordered the complete light engine because I believe my light tunnel is collapsing as well. The left side of my tv has a dark area.

I also had a question about my HDMI input. It has never worked. I didn't even try to use it until after my warranty had expired. So I called Samsung, but they were no help. They just told me to call a local dealer and pay for it myself because it was past my warranty period. I cannot select the HDMI input even when there is a source feeding it. The tv acts as if it does not acknowledge that something is plugged in. The HDMI input is grayed out in the menu as well. Do you know what could cause this? And I have tried with multiple sources and multiple cables with no luck. Thanks.

I would recommend entering the service menu and doing a factory reset. To get to the service menu:

Power OFF your TV

On the remote control press: Mute, 1, 8, 2, POWER

The TV should turn on into the service menu.

Do a factory reset and it may resolve the issue.

I finally received my light assembly. It took almost a month. Discount-merchant.com shipped me the wrong part. I paid double in shipping to get the part next day and it takes a month. Go figure. Anyway, the DMD board was not the problem. The tv is still not working.
