Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
Sounds like a light tunnel to me, but I'm not sure. can you post a picture of it?

thanks for posting the pic for my i appreciate all the help
Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
It actually almost looks like the lamp isn't seated properly. Have you taken it out of them enclosure? You might need a newer designed enclosure. Check to see if anything is melted in the lamp housing.
It doesn't really look like a light tunnel but I could be wrong. I'm going to keep asking around. Sorry it's taken so long.

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
no worries im sure your very busy but um yea..... i opened the circle panel on the side of the dlp and like i said even when the power is off and disconnected from the wall its still there i have a hunch its the screen i called this tv repair shop and i sent him a picture he asked me if any chemicals were sprayed to clean it, which of course is no but i just found out my 2 year old daughter got a hold of a spray bottle with bleach and sprayed it like two weeks before the shadow appeared does it take that long for damage to take place? where can i buy the inside and outside screen i also found out that 1 2 on the diagnostics means that theres nothing wrong electronically i dont have any lights saying theres an issue the timer light blinks but the tv still works fine. what do you think like i said im doing research but im still a newbie at this what would you suggest
Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
Moose,
Are you sure you ordered the right lamp? It seems like you may have ordered a Parabolic lamp instead of an Eliptical lamp. Please put up pictures of the lamp that you are installing in your housing along with how it's installed!
Bleach spray on the TV is definitely NOT the problem. If a technician or TV repair shop told you that, you may want to look into a TV repair shop that knows what their doing!
Let us know!

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
I havent changed the bulb yet its almost like a liquid is in between the inner and outer screen i pushed at both screens by opening the circle panel on the side and even when the TV is off and the power disconnected from the surge strip and the outlet its still there i did the electrical diagnostics by pushing the input and menu buttons at the same time for a few seconds and it read off a code to me of 12(twelve) and that means nothing electronic is wrong and ive tried to cancel out reasons but yea i havent replaced the bulb yet. the only reason why i feel its the screen is that when there is no power running to the dlp the shadow is still there like when i pushed at the screen it seems as if liquid is in between it and from when i started this thread it seems to be less shadowy look but its still there IDK !@#@# i will post a few pics soon. thanks for ur time and help
Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
yea the TV repair place is called Paradyme, which are pretty reputable in my area i got some new pictures and since i've been squeezing the screens together from the inside the circular side panels it appears to be going away since my dlp has inner & outer screens it looks like a liquid in between i appreciate all the input and i greatly appreciate ur time and help to get me through this situation of frustration and the constant crap mouth i've had since it showed up

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
There's no liquid in the TV, that's the problem. I'd start by checking the lamp like ovadoggvo says. That's a possibility too. Otherwise, I think it looks like it's seated wrong--but only a good repair tech will be able to tell you what's actually wrong with it!

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
thanks i have a tech coming out to check it today
Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
Just a tip:
The tech usually charges $50-100 to come out, but will put that money toward the repair (most techs do this). Just to be straight though, if the problem is going to cost more than $400 including parts/labor, be wary of the costs! They might try to squeeze you for more.

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
Hi, New here. I joined this forum just to respond to this post. It's so obvious what happened here! Moose said in his third post. His daughter sprayed a liquid on the screen. The liquid ran down behind the trim, collected at the bottom, and then wicked up between the two screens. Remember capillary action???? The inner screen is a lenticular screen. Vertical ribs?? Perfect channels for liquid to climb up. How could it be a bulb or a light tunnel?? He repeated multiple times that the mark was visible when the set was off, and un plugged. The service company called it. I've seen water get in between screens before, and cause the same effect. Plus, he said squeezing the screen caused it to move like a liquid. It's drying out now, that's why it's shrinking. From the pictures however, it looks like it's leaving a stain. What you can do is remove the screen assembly, and separate the screens, clean them, and re-assemble. The screens have a double side tape holding them together, and a lens tape around the edges (according to the manual). I'll be doing a Mitsu 73" in a couple of days. If you don't feel comfortable doing a job like this, then don't do it. You don't want to break those screens. By the way, I used to do TV repair professionally, and I've done my share of RPTV sets. I've moved on to working on smaller and lighter things (My back thanks me). I still work on the occasional set though. One question, What's a light tunnel? I know what a light engine, or optical engine is, but not a light tunnel. I even looked that one up in a couple of Mitsu service manuals I have. Didn't see it.

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
Hey Paul,
The light tunnel is a little optical rectangular tube that runs from the wheel to the optical mirrors that lead to the DMD chip. The tube itself has mirrors inside glued on to each of the sides. When a light tunnel "collapses" the glue has worn out and the mirrors are slowly falling down, or obstructing light. It's poor design if you ask me! I'm attaching a picture of the the DLP system. The light tunnel is #5. I guess it depends on the manufacture, but most DLPs to my knowledge have light tunnels. You won't see them in LCD projections or anything, and if this is a WD-57733 we're talking about, it's definitely a DLP.
Also, I guess I had misread about the liquid. I thought he said his daughter sprayed liquid a few weeks prior to it showing up. My comment about no liquid in these TVs is that inherently there's no liquid or liquid crystal in the screen. My apologies. I guess there CAN be liquid in there if someone spills something inside.. but I've NEVER seen that happen before!

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
That's great. I'm glad it was something relatively minor. And thanks for the light tunnel explaination. I looked it up after I posted. Now maybe you guys can help me out. I recently picked up a WD-73732 that someone trashed. When I fire this thing up, it has a beautiful picture for about an hour (In a 60 ~ 65 degree garage), then the colors go all off, and there's flashing in the picture. With the back off the set, it runs good for about 1 1/2 hours. I know this is the famous (Dreaded) light engine problem. From the way this thing is acting, and my experience, it's telling me it's a thermal problem. Probably one stupid component breaking down. My research basically turned up many people with the same problem, but I can't find anyone who actually dug into one of these light engines to see what is really wrong. I know Mitsubishi doesn't make parts available for them, but Samsung does for theirs. I read somewhere that the same manufacturer makes the engines for both Samsung, and Mitsu. I haven't been able to verify that yet. My question is do you guys know anyone who has done any work down to component level on the light engines, or where I can get any service info on them? My plan is to completely remove the guts of the 73, and run it on the bench. If it truly is a thermal problem, I should be able to find it a little easier with everything on the bench.
I'm not too worried about messing it up. It was a feebee, and not my primary TV (I would like to fix it though).

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
did u try a diagnostics on it yet i recently learned how to do it i when its plugged in and the issue you're having occurs make sure its shut down and push the input button and the menu button at the same time and hold for about 5 seconds or so and it should read you a number for example if the code reads (12) it will blink once then a pause then blink twice if its (23) it will blink twice pause and then blink three times and repeat the code a few times to make sure u got it i learned this trick from someone if it reads twelve, it means its not electrical like my issue with the screen i did the diagnostics and it read twelve, which means nothing electrical any who hopefully this post will help u or anyone in someway

Re: Mitsubishi DLP WD-57733 57"
Thanks for the info on the diagnostic codes, but that won't help me here.
I figured I'd need to really dig into this thing to find the problem, so I gutted my set (WD 73732), and set it up on the test bench.
I ran it projecting the picture on the ceiling (Awesome watching a 9ft wide picture!).
Anyway, after 45 minutes the picture's colors went all off, and the flashing started.
I did some diagnostic work, and within 5 minutes (yes I said 5 minutes), I had the picture back to normal.
I will start a new thread to post my preliminary results, but I will tell you it's looking good.
