Toshiba 52HM84 Light Engine

Post by rajantonyv » Fri Mar 12, 2010 1:44 am

It looks like I have a bad light engine. I would like to replace it myself if possible because it has already cost me a fortune (with new light bulb and a refurbished light engine). Can i get some directions on how to replace the light engine please? Thanks,

Raj

Hello rajantonyv.
First let’s get one thing clear, this is not a guide, this is a reference of one of my old Toshiba TV that I happened to take out the light engine, so you can get an idea of what to expect. The real trick is to keep two thing in mind, 1.- remember what, where and when you disconnect something. 2.- Your going to make a mess, so everything you take out, organize it.
Ok let’s start.
Your going to start at the back of the TV, take out the back of the panel, you’ll se the tv is divided in two, the video board (analog & digital) and the light engine ( it takes 2/3 of the space on the back).
Get your favorite screwdriver (your going to take out a lot of screws) and remove anything that get in the way of the light engine.
Mine looked like this.

Now you got to remove your lamp from the old one so you can later install it in the new one.

To completely remove the light engine from the rest of your TV there are some cable you have to disconnect.

The trickiest cable to unplug was the one that goes from the light fan to the power supply. (above & below)

Also there is a screw located in the top that holds a securing lid for the light engine lens.

If by now you are still uncertain if you can do this, I suggest you don’t, get a professional technician instead.

How ever if you have the time, patients, space, and are deter mend to fix it, then do you home work a little more on the web, get a pair of latex gloves or an antistatic bracelet roll up your sleeves and get started.
Good Luck.
