I have a KDF-E55A20 and it started cutting out the picture for about 45-60 seconds and then would come back on for a couple of hours and then repeat. It now only stays on for about 1 minute. I checked the diagnostics and it says its the ballast, but the lamp has over 8500 hours on it. I am suspecting that due to the manner in which these lamps function, and the number of hours on the lamp, it is actually the lamp that is bad and not the ballast. Any suggestions?

If the lamp has 8000+ hours you should try that first. Worst case scenario you have a spare lamp.
