Hi folks,
I recently had to do a lamp replacement on my Samsung DLP (HL61A650C1FXZA) -- the first lamp lasted just under 2 years. I received the new lamp (under warranty) and replaced it, and everything worked swell for about a week. Then the TV shut itself off in the middle of a movie, and when turning on started flashing all three lights (the dreaded "replace the lamp" code). When turning the TV on, I can see the lamp try to turn on -- it sort of buzzes and flickers, but ultimately doesn't turn on.
Does this sound like the lamp is bad, or is something else the culprit? It's (still) barely under warranty so I'd like to make sure I get the right thing fixed instead of just getting a new lamp that may or may not resolve the issue.

Re: replaced lamp, new lamp fitzing after a week?
Hello jwkfs.
Have you reset the lamp timer? Don’t worry; you’re not the only one with this issue.
Let me link you to one of my post and the reason it’s so important to reset the lamp timer after replacing a new lamp.

Hi, thanks for the response -- I saw the post on reseting the lamp timer, but I am not able to do that because the TV will not turn on. I did try it, but saw the same symptoms I described before and couldn't get a picture.NightKid wrote:Hello jwkfs.

The loud buzzing and flickering lamp (that I can see with the switch taped down) is definitely not normal.

Re: replaced lamp, new lamp fitzing after a week?
Hello again jwkfs.
Ok, so I think you can rule out the timer, now that you confirmed that the lamp is trying to turn on and flickers. On very possible cause is that the ballast is sending irregular voltage to the lamp, when a lamp runs out of mercury gas it some time creates a short circuit that also affects the ballast, making buzzing or clicking noises. Another possible cause is the color wheel, when the middle bearing is dislocated it causes the wheel to make a screeching whining or buzzing sound, or a piece of the wheel has chipped off.
My recommendation is to first inspect if the noise is coming from near the ballast. and second inspect the color wheel physically. See if its damaged or if the noise is coming from there.
To find out more about the ballast & color wheel check on of my early posts.
