I have a 50" Samsung DLP which is about 5 years old. It sometime takes several tries before it turns on, but my main problem is a loud humming noise. This noise was always present when the TV was starting up, but now it doesn't go away.
What do you think the problem is?

It's most probably your color wheel, check if it's having problems to spin, here is a guide to take it out:
